The South Hall Rotary Club was honored to be able to recognize Jernazia Hill as the 2022 recipient of the Betsy Clausen Scholarship at the Lanier College & Career Academy’s Graduation Ceremony. The annual scholarship goes to a student that shows true leadership, and character amongst their peers, and has plans to pursue secondary education.
This year’s recipient started at LCCA as a freshman as a program of choice student who is now graduating a year early. The faculty was quick to applaud her for doing the right thing, being on task, and setting an example for others. Ms. Hill is said to be always smiling and willing to help her classmates, and a hard worker.
As a Cosmetology Pathway Completer, she competed in Regional Competition for SkillsUSA on behalf of the cosmetology department and she served as one of the Chapter Officers for SkillsUSA. Ms. Hill was an intern at Design 360, a student-based enterprise, and was honored as the WBL student of the month in September.
During her senior year, she took on more academic rigor courses to become HOPE eligible in order to attend Augusta University in the Fall. Her focus and determination have allowed her to shift her focus to pursue a nursing career.
This is the fifth year the South Hall Rotary has presented this scholarship to a deserving student at LCCA. As the only scholarship given to an LCCA student each year, South Hall Rotary is honored to be able to bless the best and brightest from the academy.
“We love the opportunity to bless students who have taken a non-traditional path and still have the determination to succeed,” stated Club President Brenda McMillian. “We look forward to this presentation each year.”
