Lake Lanier Association’s annual Shore Sweep took place on September 26th. Hundreds of volunteers including a group from South Hall Rotary jump on board to get their hands dirty in an effort to keep our beautiful lake clean. Rotarians were able to pull in 6 large rogue Styrofoam mats a long with numerous smaller pieces of trash that day.
In addition, other members walked the shorelines to collect trash in all shapes and size. South Hall Rotary partners with Margaritaville Lake Lanier each year to utilize boats for volunteers. Members then work with the Aqualand Marina drop off location to ensure that the trash is properly collected and disposed.
Shore Sweep Chair Brain Cantel pointed out that this year was a more intimate event because our club couldn’t host the interact students. However, the members that participated got to bring their families and enjoyed lunch after docking at Pig Tails with other Rotarians.
In the past years, this event has brought in more than 90 tons of trash off our beautiful lake and is a key component in helping Lake Lanier stay clean.
