Showing Up Strong for Shore Sweep 2021

Shore Sweep
Flowery Branch, GA – While half the club was hosting the Awesome 80’s 5k, several team members were out sweeping the shores of Lake Lanier.  Club members Brian Cantel and Corey Benson led teams from the local Flowery Branch Boy scout Troup around the shores of Aqualand marina to help pick up trash from the area.

The group brought in two boatloads of trash that include anything from discarded fishing equipment, dock floats, and even swim shorts that someone left behind.  The event – hosted each year by the Lake Lanier Association and Keep Hall Beautiful – brought in over 80 tons of trash this year from the Lake’s shoreline.

“In all honesty, this was the least amount of trash we have seen while doing shore sweep, but it is probably because of how high the lake is right now” stated Cantel.

Even though this date overlapped with the club’s fundraiser, they didn’t want to miss out on this opportunity to put service above self.  Protecting the lake is a big part of protecting the environment of the local community. The club made a great effort to make sure we were present for the event.

After completing their drop-off, the Rotary Club treated the Boy Scouts to lunch at Pig Tails Lake Lanier to show our appreciation for their help.
