Members of the South Hall Rotary are excited to announce the formal induction of the West Hall High School Interact Program. Club members Brian Cantel, Jerry Shingleton, Rena Pendley, and Youth Services Chair Jay Kelly participated in the event held on May 2nd at West Hall.
South Hall Rotary members, District 6910 Interact Chair and West Hall Faculty Jess Hebensteit (Club Sponsor), Stephanie White (Club Sponsor), and Principal Ley Hathcock presented the founding club members with their official Interact charter. In addition, Jay Kelly charged the students with the mission of Interact and their ability to be an inspiration to the student body of West Hall.
The Interact club is designed for middle and high school youth to encourage the spirit of service within their community or school. The goal of Interact is to enjoy themselves while participating in services projects and broadening their perspectives on the world.
While Interact clubs receive guidance from individual Rotary clubs, they govern and support themselves. During the 2019-2020 school year, these clubs are given the goal of organizing at least two service projects a year. The first project is designed to benefit the local West Hall community and the second one promotes international understanding.
“It only makes sense for our local high school students to participate in Interact Clubs because it furthers the vision of our local school systems efforts to encourage public service and community engagement. It also gives students a chance to truly see that they can make an impact in their communities when they work together.”
– Club President Renee Carden
Four student leaders were inducted into the club on May 2nd: Ashley Alcantar, Devon Cantel, Benjamin Pendley, Charles Benson. Benjamin Pendley is the son of President Nominee Rena Pendley and Devon Cantel is the son of past President Brian Cantel.
“We know the impact has on the family of Rotarians who encourages their families to participate in our clubs services projects” stated Rena Pendley. That is why we realize just how much more our children will get out of actively being a part of their own clubs.
The club will fully start its first full year of making an impact at the start of the next school year. West Hall students or parents who are interested in learning more should reach out to Ms. White.
The South Hall Rotary meets on Wednesdays at The Oaks at Lanier Career Academy.
